Imagination

Friday night is family night at our house. You can usually find us perusing toy stores, window shopping at the mall, or eating at Friendly's. Tonight is a little different, though, because both of my kids are sick. We stayed at home and just watched TV. Of course, the kids wanted to watch cartoons and I knew it would be useless to try to convince them to watch something on The Travel Channel or National Geographic. I'm game for cartoons because there is a lot of variety (unlike when I was a kid)! I have particularly become fond of a show on Nick Jr. called The BackYardigans. The basic premise of the show is that the characters begin playing in the backyard and imagining some type of far-fetched scenario. Within a few minutes, the backyard is transformed to match their imagination. They may be racing around the world or defending a castle against a scary dragon but their imagination creates a world that only they can see. When I was a kid, I loved using my imagination but, for some reason, when I became an adult I thought an imagination was childish. Age sometimes leads us away from dreaming and imagining what could be... However, lately I have found myself using my imagination. I am truly excited about the new ministry God is allowing our church to begin - The Summit...Green Campus of Canton Baptist Temple. Through prayer and much study of the scripture God has been causing me to use my imagination of what could be if I surrender this new endeavor to Him. A verse that the Holy Spirit keeps prompting in my mind is 2 Peter 3:9. Summarizing Peter's words, the verse promises that God is not willing that any should die without having a relationship with Him and that all would repent and turn to Him. If I really believe this and understand God asks all Christians to spread the gospel (death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ for our sins), I must imagine Him using me to accomplish this through His strength and power. God gave us an imagination so that we could envision what could be. Right now, The Summit does not exist in physical form, but in my mind I am imagining what could be when many Christians take the commands of Christ seriously and carry the gospel of Jesus Christ into a community. God give us Green and the surrounding communities so that Your name can be honored!

Hey Tom!

It’s so funny that you talked about the Backyardigan’s. I have watched that show on Nick many times. It’s hard to get the theme song out of your head! I am excited that our church is going into the backyard to reach more people for Christ!

Tonight, in the big snow storm, became family night for me too. :-) The dog is getting lost in the snow though!

Hey I actually catch this show sometimes too. I can get caught up in some of these cartoons, but nothing is like it used to be. There are some junk cartoons now.
